:) 8) :!: :?:    Hey Carl whats wrong with spinning reels? also a new cat. is needed ( How about a old fashioned hand line, remeber those ? came on a scaled down close line winder usualy had green or black line? pfluger had them on cards or in boxes fo 15 cents or 3 for a quater with bober and hook and sinker! as for spinning all you need is a spool , prferably woodon, full of new line 50 yards or a dual pack 100 yards, now find a stick drill a hole thru it put in a nail, and drop the spool down to the nail, make certain the stick has a bit of grease on it now drill another hole thru the stick, and put a nail thru the hole leave just a tad of free playfor the spool to unwind, now take a saftey pin out of your diaper, put a small hole at top of stick and then put pin thru the stick close the pin and feed line thru the large opening of the pin. put on casting weight and while holding up you diaper cast it till the 50 yards is all gone to the target! There you have it, a new casting contest! Your Ohio conection Col. Milton lorens aka SWIM JIG ps I even understand spiing reels ie the spool spins!

1st hour

Post by Brian F. »

My first hour of trying to cast with a level wind reel for the first time in my life went smoother than I thought. I took out my new Akron 1893 and put it on a 5' Fenwick bass rod (ok, it's glass but I'm still looking for a good steel or bamboo rod. Maybe 1 backlash per 8-10 casts surprised me but I guess it helps that I already cast Senators from 3/0 to 6/0. Just gotta get used to the action of the rod, it seems more like.b All I can say is thank goodness someone invented spinning reels and nylon line!
