My first fly reel! I remember boarding the bus to travel downtown in Kansas City to the Gateway store for a reel for my nice new Wright & McGill 8 1/2 foot glass rod which I'd purchased earlier (naturally didn't have enough money for both at one time). This was in the early to mid 1950s after I'd been taken a few times to south Missouri and fished/camped on the Kings river.
At that time I didn't even know what a spinning outfit was, only used fly rod and enjoyed very second of it. I remember being sold on that little finger trigger to bring the line quickly in. The reel felt great to me on the rod and I fished with it for many years.

Since we have the go ahead John I'll tell that I also still have the reel and the handle from the flyrod. For some reason sometime in the 1980s the glass started decomposing. I cut the handle/reelseat off and somehow used it with a yellow Finwick 9 ft. blank to made a nice Bass rod. Used it very little, but ever now and then I pick it up just to hold the handle to help my mind go back in time to some wonderful memories. Don't remember ever catching anything big, but many Bluegill, Rock Bass, Smallies, and some Largemouth Bass. Almost all on poppers too.
