I wasn't bright enough to take "before shots", so all I can share is these after pictures. Trust me...it WAS dirty & ugly. At least now it's not dirty and it'll hold more "stuff".
Very attractive display, and whatever that box looked like before you laid hands on it, the after is anything but ugly. You do good work.
My dad made a similar salt water box in 1940 or 41, and I still have it. Nothing fancy but totally functional. And the memories of its maker, and the trips we enjoyed are priceless.
I always figured that there must have been plans for one of these boxes that came out in Mechanic Illustrated or some other mag. You fellow Crustys will recall that MI was about the only 'Guy" mag out there in The Day...had a bit of everything from the wit and wisdom Tom McCahill to woodworking projects. Also, might have been a classic shop class project, although we never had that one in our school. Also, there was some company in LA (CA) that was pumping them out of every sporting goods store in the area...can't bring up the name at the moment.
