Shakespeare 1890 Model EB

Post by stevenm »

This was the first fly reel given to me by my father. The whole hardware selection had been changed out for some non factory stuff years ago. I decided it was time to get this thing smooth and functional again. (and maybe look nice too?) All new screw, nut, nylon washers, star pressure plate and spring washer installed.
This is not factory restoration, but i did clean the reel, so i suppose it fits here. :-P

Also, anyone guess what the plastic star washer is i chose? (front center)
I used it because it's springy and does a much better job applying equal pressure than the aforementioned hardware.

27,000,000 awesome points to the one who gets it first!

I'll pop a guess in...Servo Wheel from a remote control toy (car/truck etc.). If not...your better half is gonna be pizzed, when she goes to use her mixer :!:

Haha! Spot on rick. The mixer is safe for the moment. I knew there would be a few r/c plane buffs out there. :-)

The only one I ever attempted to fly, ended up in disaster...for the other guy. Switched the power on on my plane, and the one he had "in the air"...nose dived :!: It wasn't pretty...

Just a wild guess based on configuration. Can I swap those points for cash?

Yes sir you can swap them for cash!
60,000,000 are worth a penny. :-) I'll pay pal it immediately.

I did some more work to the reel. It now has high and low drag. :-)
With the wire engaged on the screw in the pic, the star is stationary utilizing the large nylon washer under it.

When it is disengaged (wire un-hitched), the star spins with the spool on the much smaller nylon washer underneath the screw head.

What good is it for? I have no idea...but it has 2 drag settings now with the flip of the wire, lol. A selectable braking system if you will.
