Indiana Reels

Post by Eppinger collector »

I was wondering how the Indiana reels with the long tines were used. Were they used like a fly reels or did people actually cast them like bait caster reels?

They were designed for baitcasting. Advertising hyped the advantages:
Narrow spools for better thumb control
Wide-diameter spools made multiplying gears unnecessary for fast retrieval

big spool also helps on the backlash since the reel doesn't rotate as fast.
