Old Casting Rods

Post by BruceHandley »

As per a member's request, please find a posting for a John Landman 5 1/2 ft., 2/2 bait caster. This rod has rolled and soldered hardware. It is marked on the reel seat as "V L & A Chicago". There are two things about this rod that make it unique, even for John Landman. One is that grip and reel seat assembly is a separate item. The other thing is that all the ferrules are standard Landman rolled & soldered ferrules except the male ferrule on the butt section that goes into the grip and reel seat assembly. This ferrule is drawn.

This rod would date to approximately 1900 or perhaps just a bit earlier. Here are photos of the rod.

Following directions here these photos come out too small--this is my first time posting photos to this board. Can someone please give me instructions on how to get the photos to the correct size? They're being uploaded from Photobucket.

I took this one into photoshop an doubled the size...you lose some res doing this, but it's still a beautiful piece of work, Bruce! Are you using photobucket or Who?

I'm not all that familiar with photobucket but, I think that when you uploaded the original pics into photobucket...they automatically compress your pictures to their size standard. It looks like they've compressed them to about 160 X 120 pixels. Trying to re-enlarge them from photobucket copies will just distort them.

You'll probably need your original pictures from your camera or your computer for good quality and size. If you have those originals...send them to me and I'll post them for you. If anyone else has a better plan...jump right in here and give us some help.
