I think these boxes are neat. Each box has the reel for it. the maroon box has a single patent Supreme 1573 which has serial number 19386 on it, the green and white has a Supreme 1573 with Patented Pats Pend on the bottom of the foot and the date of 6 57 on the bottom of the box, and the tan one has an Akron 1893 and no dates. the opposite end of the green and white box has the Supreme label on it.
The label on the maroon box has a few interesting statements on it. Here are a couple:
Tackle for all kinds of fishing guaranteed without time limit. (Really?)
Oldest and Largest Tackle Maker in the U.S.A.
Leaders since 1864. Made by the third Generation of Pfluegers.
Something else I found interesting were the following:
On the maroon box it had Order No. 379 Job No. 415
On the tan box it had Repair No. 5965 Order Reg. No. 5267R
On the green and white box it had Repair No. 9893 Order No. 8663R
It seems like the numbers ran continuously and did not start over each year. How about some thoughts on that Bad Bob, Robin, John, or anyone else.
Jerry I wouldn't mind a better picture of the maroon one. I'm moving friday but after i unpack I will try to remember to look at mine and compare the numbers. I only have tan and green ones.
It is only a guess but I'll bet that if you sent a reel in to be repaired in the original box, they stuck a label on the other end and sent it back in that box. If you sent in the reel with no box it was returned in one of the common brown "repaired reel" boxes.
