As posted in the Show & Tell forum, I've re-created five mahogany and brass thumb pirns for re-enactors, collectors and avid supporters of my work. I am keeping one of them, the prototype. The other four will be numbered 1 to 4 and marked with my maker's mark.I am accepting pre-orders now for $200. They will be complete in 2 weeks. Once complete, the price will be raised to $250.

The reel is 1.75" D and 3.45" overall length. The spool was turned and finished with 10 applications of hand-rubbed linseed oil and polished with bees wax. My goal was to reproduce the materials, manufacture and finish as near period as I could muster. The spindle & thumb ring are silver soldered from brass rod and hand filed and finished. The one deviation I made was to bush the spool with brass tubing. You can't see it and it significantly improves the smoothness of rotation and will reduce wear.
