Old Age And Sporting Endeavors

Post by Jonathan P. Kring »

For the last couple of years my golfing skills which were never good, have diminished. I sometimes think it's time to give up on the game. On a recent couple of days of fishing, I have noticed some of the same problems with fishing. Simple things like threading the line through the line guides, tying knots, untangling lines are much more demanding than they used to be. When you reach retirement and think you will have more time to do the things you have always enjoyed, you realize maybe you are too old to do them anymore. It certainly takes some of the joy out of it. My deceased mother- in- law always said," whoever said these are the golden years, is full of it." I'm not ready to give up yet but, I can see why a lot of older people seem to become inactive. Partly because they can't do things with ease anymore and partly because they just have to stop.

Know how you feel Jonathan. The rocks are more slippery, the current faster, weariness sets in earlier in the day, joints ache that night, and tying surgeon's knots is an outright trial. Having said this, I haven't given up yet. Keep saying "This is the last year I'm wading that creek", but it keeps calling me back. I have said before that life doesn't end when the body gives up, it ends when the last dream dies. Keep dreaming!
