~ EARLY EDWARD VOM HOFE - 423 RESTIGOUCHE- 6/0 ~
For your consideration this Edward Vom Hofe - 423 - Restigouche 6/0 salmon reel with the early front mounted arrow drag adjuster. This fantastic example of Edward Vom Hofe's classic American salmon reel has the Jan. 23, 83 patent date stamped on the rear sliding oiler cap and the Sept. 2, 79 date stamped on the front mounted drag adjuster. As stated above this is a very early example with no serial number, size or model number stamped on its full length foot. The reel is in great mechanical condition with working click and functioning drag. The aesthetic condition of the reel is near excellent with only a few small spots on the German silver that could be cleaned off with little effort. The reel has the original owners name professionally engraved in the head plate in a beautiful script that was done at the factory as traces of the original red coloring can still be seen in the lettering. The owner was A. W. (Alfred William) Hoyt, an engineer and investor in the Federal Union Mining Company and author of "Over the Plains to Colorado" written in 1867. Hoyt owned a large estate on Long Island "Red Maples" and was married to General William Tecumseh Shreman's niece. Don't miss this chance to own this wonderful 125 year old classic salmon fly reel.
