Mitchell Garcia 400 and Diawa 7700 user manuals

Post by maintenancegum »

I recently was given two older reels. The Diawa was my fathers when he lived in Michigan and needs a little work. As for the Mitchell, it was given to my brother from a friend of his who was leaving to go into the Marines back in the early 90's. Turns out his grandfather owned this reel and when he passed it was given to him.

After contacting Mitchell I was able to get a scanned copy of the parts manual but was not able to receive a copy of the owners manual. The same holds true for the Diawa. They told me this website was the place to look for manuals and other hard to find parts and such. If anyone knows anything about these two reels I would be interested in buying the original user manuals or possibly if anyone could just scan a copy that would be just as good.

Today I got the Mitchell cleaned and relubed. The bail operates perfectly. The French really know how to make a good fishing reel. The Daiwa on the other hand still has a problem with the anti-reverse. I need to order a replacement bail and may need to have a reel repair shop take a look at the anti-reverse. The main drive gear doesn't catch properly to stop the spool from back reeling. I am still interested in buying the manuals for both of these reels. I would even be greatful for just a scanned copy. This is a photo of the Mitchell Garcia 400. I think this will make a great addition to my collection.

Welcome to the board!

Yes, neat reel and great for fishing...you just gotta love the way those gears feed that line onto the spool!

Re the Daiwa, I would open it up and have a look-see...in an tray or box so nothing heads for the carpet...and just see what's up with the anti-reverse. Sometimes it is just so gummed up with old grease that the spring and/or dog are not working...a good cleaning with mineral spirits and re-lube is often all you need...and if not, you'll likely see the fatal flaw that needs repair. The bails often get tweeked and can be re-bent to make them behave...perhaps with a bit of finagling, you can get yours back working again without replacing, assuming there is not break anywhere.

Also, if you have joined ORCA, you can access our library where you might find the manuals you need in residence. if you are not a member, you should consider giving us a look for a year. Any new members that sign up from now to the end of the year get the last two issues of 2012 Reel News along with all of 2013...such a deal!

Fun stuff!
