I know very little about Raised Pillar reels. All I know is they have strong eye appeal. The small one is a Marked "2"...the unpolished is Marked "1". I'll gladly trade for examples similar to these regardless of size...by the way, the "1" is chock full of silk fly line...leading me to believe it is older and was last used for Atlantic Salmon. Why not...it is a multiplying reel and could probably lay out a long cast with a 10 to 16 foot rod. Thanks for any leads or trades/sales. I say bass reels but these wider variations might have been built for flyfishing,too...I'm learning as I go.
I prefer the JVH reels marked "Mills" but I'll collect any raised pillar from this era. Mills made a #20,22,23...in regular width and narrow spools...1" wide. I need examples of both...or one of each in the same size. If any of you collect lures, too...I have many lures to trade.
