4 Bros. "Capitol" Reel 40 yarder now For Sale @ $35! w/Pics
I thought that the "Capitol" branded reels were all the larger saltwater series.
Is this a rare reel? It is available, but its not in great shape. The nickel silver rims and other areas have tarnish, and the worst is a crack in the hard rubber.
I wish it was nicer, but I think its a rare reel being a 40 yard size.
Appreciate any input and/or interest as it is for sale, just don't know a fair price...
Email me for photos, etc.
Thanks! Paul - ORCA/NFLCC

Paul, they were in Pflueger catalog years 1926 - 28 and seem to be a little tougher than the larger sizes.

Thanks Brian! So they were standard in smaller sizes as well as the saltwater sizes just not as common? So, given condition and only a less common, not rare reel, maybe 30-40 bucks? BTW Wish I was where you are right now! It is warm there I'm sure! In the 30's here! Brrr!
Thanks again,
Paul
Thanks again,
Paul

Paul,
The smaller Capitol was numbered in catalogs as 602 (40 yd), 603 and 603J (for jeweled, 60 yd), 604 and 604J (80 yd) and 605 (100 yd). Only the 602 was made from 1926-28 while the others were made from 1926-31. This info came from David Percival's Reel News, 1997 Winter issue article Pflueger Reels: Adams to Worth.
There was a 60 yd version that just sold for $78 which had a few rubs on the rim nickle silver finish. http://www.ebay.com/itm/First-Version-1 ... 7675.l2557 I have not been on the look out for them but the 40 yd version would probably go for more if in the same shape. Price of your reel might be affected by the extent/location of the crack in the hard rubber.

I bought the 80 yd. version in really nice shape and it cost me $44. The ones without jewels were made from 1916-1917 only according to the catalogs. Those after thatwere jeweled, even without the J after the number. Mine has plain oil caps. I bet those reels would go for more if everyone knew how short a time perion the non-jeweled models were made.

Re: 4 Bros. "Capitol" 40 yarder (now for sale) > $35 !
To everyone who helped me with info on this I want to give a huge thank you!
Looks like this is a pretty scarce reel being made only a couple years in the late teens! Too bad it is not nicer, but hey, not a bad price for a filler til a better one comes around!
Thanks again, Brian, Don, John and everyone else on this board and ORCA!
Great Club and Great Guys! I look forward to meeting a bunch of you this year in Kentucky! Come say hello to a "rookie" member/old collector!
