Hardy reel value

Post by Reelhimin, Gary Carbaugh »

I have a chance to trade some bamboo rods for a Hardy St. George, 3 screw, agate line guide with a white knob. There are no cracks in the agate and the reel is 3" in diameter. It has great patina and no rust or damage. He thinks this reel with the white (Gutta Percha?) knob is 1915-20 era. Can someone give me a value range and confirm the age of this reel? Thanks, Gary.

The 3 inch model was introduced in 1920 and the white handle was Ivorine, a type of celluloid. This was replaced in the 1920's with a black ebonite handle. This model is valued from $300-600 dependant on condition.

One just sold on eBay for between $700-$800. The one you are looking at with the white handle is even older.

Indeed it did, but one sold last October at Desmond Auction for £270 = $495.
Like I said "dependant on condition". If you take the value of every one sold over the last 12 months it is not that far out.
Remember it is being offered as part of a trade and not being put up for action
