Groundhogs
I will never trust or believe another groundhog. I think they are all a bunch of Liars. Had to break ice again this morning!

Re: Groundhogs
I'm thinking it may be July before it warms up.
The Mn walleye & bass openers might still be Ice Fishing

You have to have faith! Build a lake and the fish will come.
Re: Groundhogs
I'm with you Ron. I grew up on a farm here in Indiana and most of the groundhogs I have encountered may have seen stars, but not shadows...

Re: Groundhogs
When you retire and have no where to go, who cares?. Let it snow. We need the moisture to counter the drought, plus puts off the yard work and mowing a little longer. If I was still employed, I wouldn't like it.

I know this may not be to most of your likings, but to me the only good groundhog is the one on the GRILL, very tasty. You should try it sometime. Better than rabbit.

Really cool gun Ron. Never had them on the grill. Only had them baked and in the slow cooker they are delicious. We ended up with 13.7 inches here in central Ill. What did you Indiana guys get?

7 or 8 in Indianapolis. Wet, won't be around long. You get the biggest and best in Il. In this case, that's good for us.
Re: Groundhogs
I never had a groundhog for lunch, but always heard they are good eating. I could never get myself to try one, due to my raising. I was always taught to keep those varmits out of the bean fields and that was my mission I guess.
The snow here around the Brazil/Terre Haute area is only about 3 inches. I think the first part of it melted fast because of the warmer ground underneath.
Now, here is the neat part. (this happened a couple of hrs. ago)... I always feed the birds in the winter (cardinals, gold finches and the like), but since the snow, I have been infested by blackbirds and starlings. They were beating up on my regulars, so I decided to shoot and scare them off. They would come right back and I had heard that if you shoot a couple, the others wouldn't come back. I gave that a try and it seemed to help. I then spotted a blackbird way up in a tall oak tree, so I thought I would try my long shot skills with this little .22 cal. rifle. I shot and hit it (surprised). As it fell, it caromed off of a limb and swoosh! a hawk nailed it on the way down. I never dreamed I would see such a thing. I don't have a clue where the hawk was, but it didn't take him long to appear, hit his pray and disappear into the trees. Not a big deal, but something you don't see everyday. When the weather changes, back to the groundhogs...lol.
