Capt. John may want to stay in TX 'til July :jester

Making up for last year I guess, that's why it's called "average"

I am roughly 30 miles west of the Twin Cities. I am fairly confident that there should be plenty of open water to be found on opener in my area. Up north may be a different story. We have some 70's forecast for the weekend and in to the following week. According to the weather report. The suns angle right now is equal to that of the month of August. I have a small pond about 2 acres in size near my house that should be completely ice free in the next couple of days. Fishing opener in Minnesota is like a like a State Holiday. The freeways are typically lined with boats. Based on my experience there can be a negative side of things , it tends to bring out the inexperienced and poorly prepared people and equipment. On the positive it is a great revenue generator for the businesses.
