Hi I'm from New Zealand, and a collector of Penn Reels, I have just stumbled across a reel I can't find any information on, just wondered if someone can tell me when they were made. It is stanped "Penn Bayhead", it has full bakerlite side plates without metal rings. It is difern't from the common Baymaster.
It has the same shaped handle and wooden knob as featured on the model F pictured on page 1 of the 1930 Penn history page on the Penn website, but has a freespool leaver, and double space bars, as pictured on the Bayside, on the same page, in addition it also has a star drag.
Early Penn Reel
According to my catalog, the three models have the following line capacities:
109 - 150 yds.
107 - 250 yds.
108 - 300 yds.
It also says that these three models have the same specifications as the three Bridge City models 102, 100, & 105, except that they have different handles. The 2 1/8" spool model is the Bridge City 105 (and Bayhead 108). The Bayhead models are finished in "tumbled chrome", whatever that is.
The same three Bayhead reels are listed in catalog #8. There are no Bayhead reels in catalog #9.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to help me out, I really appretiate this.
From what you have told me, I can think of 2 possibilities My reel is a model 108, and at some stage someone has put a differnt stand on the reel, or I have got something a little differnt.
I believe the reel I have may be an earlier model, because of the fact that there is no model number. The handle arm on my reel is shaped in reverse to the modern Penns, in that the curve is a mirror immage (curves the oppersite way) like the model K and F. Do you know when they stopped doing this.
