Edward Vom Hofe Commander Ross 16/0 - 732 - Big Game Reel with Case

This scarce Edward vom Hofe 732- 16/0 big game reel, serial number C-183 is in great, all original, excellent- condition. This is the desirable early version with no rim throw free-spool and no rim throw clicker or clicker button. This, the 16/0 size, was the largest cataloged example and has a massive 8 1/2 inch diameter.

The condition of this rare reel is excellent- showing only minor wear. The spool has some faint line marks, the foot has a name lightly scratched on the bottom and there are a couple very light scratches on the hard rubber. There are only a handful of these reels in existence and this is the nicest one I have seen to date.

Hello reeltackle,
Would it be possible for you to let me know the approximate value of this reel? I have one from my grandfather that is nearly identical. I am trying to decide if I should polish it up and put it on a (strong) shelf or get it into the hands of someone who can restore it to its former glory.

Hi Erik, I've sold several through the years and condition plays a big part when factoring a value. If your reels in the condition of Eds figure $12,000 to 15,000. If it's in need of a good cleaning consider John Elder. We've all seen his work. Another thing to note is the width of the reel. If the spools wide value obviously increases. A throw off or free spool definetly increases value so does a rear click switch. Final note, leather casw figure another $1,000.
