WTB early Montague reel catalogs

Post by Canefly »

I'm looking for early 20th century Montague catalogs of reels. I'll settle for copies if anyone has any. I just need the info and specs with drawings.

Thanks in advance!

Those are tough to come by. A few copies can be had through the ORCA library, but they are rarely seen otherwise. Montague City Rod Co. was strictly wholesale, so there were never any catalogs that were available to the general public. When an original catalog ever does show up for sale, they usually go for big money. People who have early catalogs in their private collections are generally reluctant to hand out copies. Starting in 1927, Montague began selling to the public, but even catalogs from that era are few and far between. How early were you looking for?

I'm looking for information about their rubber side plate reels, say 1900 to the early twenties. I'm a doofus, as I'm not at all sure of the exact years I should be looking for. I have only recently started focusing on the German Silver & rubber side wheelers and their place in the history of fly fishing that, to an extent, has been bypassed with high production costs, lightweight materials and just a change of tastes, by anglers in general. They, not only the Montys, are such lovely little reels.

I love those reels, too, as do many of the members here. But, those are the early catalogs that are extremely rare. Try using the "search" feature above and you might be able to find a lot of useful info and photos on those same reels. Good luck.
