hey everyone, new to this board obviously..
recently have found a few older steel rods in my basement that my father accumulated over the years, a man who builds custom rods with years of fishing experience. i recently looked at one of the combinations sitting in a dark corner, and the reel really interested me- i couldnt understand how it works. no drag, which i guess is comon for older reels, but i do not understand how one would cast it, as the spool is enclosed, and there is no mechanism for releasing the line. all it says is 'great lakes 98'
i assume it was made by great lakes, 98 is the model? it almost looks like a push button reel, but no button, and the spool is on an angle in relation to the rod. the original cork spool is still intact, something i found interesting.
is this a collectable reel, in any demand or whatnot? im sure someone could use it more than me, collecting dust in the basement. just wouldike some background before putting it on ebay, since there does not seem to be much information out there about these.
great lakes reel?

Matt, that reel is called the Holiday. It's a closed face spinning reel. You couldn't find a button to push to cast because there isn't one. You push on the spool to cast. In good condition, it's only worth #10 to $15 because there isn't much demand for that kind of reel at present. Keep it in the family. (oops, I just found Milt's post - sorry for the duplication) Jim
i am lost on this one
