Fin-Nor Fly Reel Help......

Post by luredin »

Trying to find out age and value of this reel. EX+ condition. I hope pictures go through. I want to trade it for a boxed lure I don't have. Let me know if you are interested as well. Thanks, Rick

I believe this is 2nd generation, value approx. $500. (1st generation is
the wedding cake style) and go for $1200 to $1500.

WILL need the modle #

Post by SWIM JIG »

:) 8) :!: :?:  as you seemto have all of the paperwork and other enhancments for the reel the Model # is needed and if you have a copy of Lawsons third edition it list several of them. Also is the original owners name a assigned NUMBER on the reel? and posibly the bill of sale!? Without this info at least the modle number you may stand to loose on the deal, FIN NORs are starting to come into a specialized are of collecting, and the values on as new are much stronger than 5to 8 years ago! Your reel looks decent however a closer view will help! Your OHIO COnection Col. M. lorens aka SWIM JIG

Er, please take into account that I don't know anything. But, casual observation suggests that it isn't very old. (Gold foil stickers? Typeset, font and graphics on brochure as per mid '70's? Felt reel bag with zipper or velcro? Zip-Loc bag?)

So I don't know which generation or value, but would hazard a guess at mid to late 1970's, and mention that IIRC there are some old reel pics (ie wedding cake) at the Fin-Nor reel website.

Waaaiiiit a minute... That name... The Inside Story, on the brochure... That rings a bell. Think maybe I asked the old FN prez Niels Stenhöj about it once, like ten years ago. What the heck was that all about? Hmm.

Fin Nor

I've owned one of these reels without box and paperwork. As others have said, it is likely from the 70's. I sold it about 3 or 4 years ago (time passes quickly) and I can't recall exactly what I got but I think around 300. I'm certain that it was not less than 250.

Therefore I think 400 to 500 for this "complete" unit should be about right. I don't follow FinNor anymore but I have to think that the box is a little tough. It's definitely a very desirable combo in my opinion. Beautiful reel.

While we're on the subject, does anybody here collect Fin-Nor, or have a dedicated interest in their offshore reels from the mid '60's?

:D 8) :!:  Dr. Rob, I like the off shore mrdium size ones as thay are the only reel a large STRIPE in TENN cant tear up! Also these Silver torpedos on Lake ERIE dont pull the drags out, that large circle drag holds very well, the one I use the most is 4a 519 gold anodized, I put 500 yrds of 50lb POWER PRO line on and only care and work is normal clean and lube at the end of each season. the spool is the 2&1/4 in across, dont belive I will need a larger one!
