Shakespeare 1860 Sturdy Question's Dates of Mfg. Reels Value

Post by danfordman »

Hi ,
I just acquired a Shakespeare 1860 Sturdy Fly Reel, In fair and working condition. My Question is what Dates were these reels made?. Also curious if anyone has an aprox. idea of the Reels Value. I recently gave away (sold too cheap) a 1939 Mitchell 300 Half Bail and don't want to repeat that mistake.
My best regards to all you fellow fisherman
Dan

Yes, there is. Here you go:

A B C D E F G H J K
0 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
L M N P Q R S T U V

Your Model HB then, would mean that production of your Sturdy was started in 1939 (H being a 3, and B being a 9). Your reel is listed in Shakespeare's 1939 catalog. It was likely only available for a few years until the War stopped production sometime in 1942. The Sturdy does not appear in any post-war catalogs. Someone else will have to chime in concerning value, but it's probably not a particularly valuable reel. Hope this helps.
