need help with reel ? what make ? any value?

Your reel looks like a reel I bought in a Lang's auction and recently sold. It was marked Thos Chubb. According to the fishingreelresearch.com page, Chubb made unmarked reels, too.

Paul's guess is certainly at the optimistic end for unmarked reels and may be correct, which would be good news for you! However, Montague made a similar reel, which would be at the far other end for value. Hopefully, others will enter the fray!

Paul, your reel has a major feature of a Chubb patent, which distinguishes it from a zillion other unknown fly reels.

Since Montague bought Chubb, Chubb reels made after 1891 were technically Montague products.

Concerning the original reel in question, I have a reel that is very similar but made of brass. We had a discussion about it here eons ago and I ended up finding it in a reprint of an 1886 E.E. Eaton catalog. Unfortunately, the photos are gone from that thread, as usual (*sigh*) thread but I'll try to dig up the reel and catalog image again. The conclusion was that it was a trade reel sold by E.E. Eaton.

Paul's reel has a domed face plate where the one in question is flat, plus the knobs aren't even similar in style. The crank handles are shaped totally different, their securing bolts are dissimilar and the strength ribbing on the side plates have different designs/ribs. I doubt the two have any relationship.

I really don't know what to do about it.

if it's low end what $$ are we looking at possible.
and high end I will save it to hand down to my 4 year old son
I'm located in Rochester NY if any one is close and wants to see it.
I don't know if it's brass how could I tell?

Knob might be a little different and there is only one screw at the cross brace but I believe this could be the same reel (bottom photo) in an 1886 EE Eaton catalog (reprinted in 1994 courtesy of Bernard Parks)
