orca reginal

Post by cws/carl schultz »

i made a mistake awhile ago and mentioned to only one person that it would be fun to do an orca regional here in lansing then next thing i know had some phone calls and emails about where when etc so i will go out on a limb here and say yes sometime early or late fall we found out with the montpeller show that we could generate our own intrest and we had an excellent showing of ORCANS from 4 states[ EVEN MILT SHOWED UP SPENDING MONEY WITH BOTH HANDS---HE HAD LEN AND I ON EITHER SIDE---LEN GOT ONE HAND I GOT THE OTHER LOL] i would like some input on a few things from those who would likely attend one thing about montpeller was rooms were $59 for 1 or 2 people so as long as there is a decent show room could you do without the **** star accomidations also attempt to get sigs involved with small meetings night before[or any suggestions] i have every confidence in this board as it has proved itself time and again[where else will you get ansewers to questions even before you know the right question and with matching pics] so ORCANS give me some feedback[oops is that an e-word ha ha] also note ORCANS not guys and gals[len would give me a lecture if i said that] -------- oh yeah by the way when len said i hang out with him because he dosent block my view of a table he forgot to add that he finds all this great stuff under the table ---------also i see that im not real good at making polls i would delete it and try again but it wont let me so just ignore it

I'll be there barring any unforseen conflicts. My birthday is October 5 if that helps influence the date.

Carl,
One of the things that impressed me the most at the first ORCA regional Bill and I held in NY was the distance Len drove to come and support the show. Great thing about this group is all the support you'll get, and I appreciated all the help Bill and I got not only from local members, but the "long distance" folks as well (I think Tom and Jay won the distance contest, all the way from Texas!). I'll be there, you just tell me when and where.

A reginal show?

Post by SWIM JIG »

:D 8) :!: :?:   cool-thumb Ok so be it however I have been attempting to do one in OHIO and cannot get the imfo on how to set one up. Bill Muth sent me a email and somting was not working! SOOOO is there anything in writing as to do a show? I am somwhat tired of shows everwhere except OHIO! We have the space IE SANDUSKY OHIO, we could do one again at Mt. Pelier again and the food and coffee is good, and I could get a few! folks to come with me as I would take at least 3 tables, Mike most likly would want 5 to 10 tables, Dave he would take one table george denny of loudonville would take one table. and thats for starters, Carl we had the national in that place in Lansing and the PARKING for the off the street walk ins was very bad! the time aloted to the public was not enough, and the room rate was well a tad high! Food was way overpriced and not that grate , pack a lunch) Why not Toledo? they have some big places! As I understand ORCA we are I thought supposed to bring in new members? How many were signed up at LANSING? or Dawjiac? I only singned one at Dawijiac, Carl in April Mike will be doing the HOLY MACKERAL Tackle show in OBERLIN, In those 3&1/2 days 10,000 plus will come tru the doors, I will sign up I trust again this year 25 new folks, we drew people from North Carolina to Mich, to Indiana, ILL. New York PENN. Ky. TENN. New Jersy and South Carolina! Over 250 members or ORCA and NFLCC showed up! I have had the ORCA Tables set up for the past 3years, using 3 tables at no cost to ORCA and dont expect any funds ! Carl, Len you were invited , Lee Faber was there , Dave Oroke was the Don champion was there along with others including the Sponskys Of PA> If we dont work at geting more members we are going to go the way of the old fishing line when it breaks! If we keep condensing these shows amoungest the members , then it will be a rare thing when new or different reels come down the pike and we all lose! I am for a show howevrer expand it and in a spot that is easy and not too expensive! I know I have droped a few pounds of rusty reels on some toes and I will not retract my thoughts! Want to know wher our ORCA banner is at this TIME ? take a good guess! Promote the club it grows do nothing and we all lose! Col. M. Lorens aka SWIM JIG in a cold snowy ohio

Post by cws/carl schultz »

milt if you want to do a show just do it my original idea was a sporting show like john did in ann arbor and to give some of us in this area an outlet mikes is not a show it is his sale and thats just fine and as to new members well first lets keep the old ones and then give the new ones something other than cyber space to enjoy the hobby in the last few years it seems to me many of the people that were only a signature have come forward and been recognized and that is by face to face contact heck i would love to have a monthly meeting but i dont think that is very practical i do a few flea markets during the summer and always hand out orca literature there are many collectors i have met this way that had no idea orca even existed as to guide lines find a hotel with meeting space send out the word and do the show i am not talking about a national this is just a get together see old friends and make new ones and trade some tackle you know the one build it and they will come and now jim where was that museum you took the pics at [lol] i dont think i will be alive long enough to get that organised its a wonderful set up will try to take some pics of some of my favorite reels and post them

get some space

Post by SWIM JIG »

:) 8)   yes CARL, Mikes is a non sanctioned show, however a show like was in ANARBOR was too small and parking was non existent, You find a place in MICH like the one in Mt Pielier ohio and I would still want 3 tables and oh yes a sports show is FINE! Arive on a friday close on SUNDAY KEEP the table cost around 20 to 30 dollars not $50.00 As for keeping old members , if we dont price things out of reach then folks will stay! I drove 170 miles one way to the last one, just a nice smoth ride however if you want to do one 2 nights friday sat the close sunday it will work! 2 in a room for $59.00 and tax is ok and decent food at a decent price, hey at what that breakfast cost I dont think I could cook for that low of a price, that room was large lots of tables and NO SHORTAGE of Parking! the loud speaker auction was a bit hard on the ears we all still enjoyed the show! RODs REELS OUTBOARD MOTORS etc a true sports show! AND the ORCA BANNER needs to be at these shows! There is a lot of reels etc in peoples homes and its for sale or trade, before it ends up in a FLEA market! As I see the outlay in cost is 1 FLIERS, 2 a small ad in the wanted section of the paper, 3 make certain the fliers are in all antique shops, sporting goods and tackle shopes, restuarnts, food stores on the bulitin board hardware stores, gun stores including Gander Mountains, Cabelas , Dicks etc, And whay dont Cabelas let us do one again in their mich store? that was a good show! Carl for some numbers MICH has by the 05 directory 32 members, OHIO has 66 members, CALIFORNIA nudged us out with 73 , so lets work together on this, some nice shows thru the year will help all of us! Michigan show

Carl,
There will be at least two Canadians who will come down.
Keep in mind that the Allentown show is October 15-16 and a lot of guys go to that one.
