Stefan, smart guys - Hardy Perfect?

Post by Ron Mc »

broken ... 7144201883

I put it on this board instead of the Ebay page, hoping to get your attention.

I was wondering about this one. Marked "Perfect Reel"? To me, this winding plate reel is a brass Hercules style reel. Did Hardy mark them this way?

Thanks,
Ron Mc

bingo. Your reel IS a perfect (sounds very nice, BTW) - but this reel is a Hercules reel, MARKED Perfect - and that is my question.

(The seller also has another Hercules reel marked with every Hardy trademark, which is also curious.)

Hi Ron, yes they are out and out forgeries. I will speak to Richard Sanderson MD of Hardy's in the morning and hopefully they can stop them. Hardy own the trade marks so there should not be a problem stopping the auction.

thanks Stefan, you're the man

I know this has nothing to do with the thread, but we're due for some gratuitous reel photos:

Spoke to the marketing director this morning and they will be contacting ebay and the seller about the reels. The seller is now saying that they might be fakes.

Hi Ron this is a Hardy reel that was sold as either a "trade" reel or the Monogram. I have seen one, many years ago, stamped "Gow". I do have somewhere a picture of a Monogram which was a special for New Zealand. Need a picture of the check mechanism to be sure. I will try and find one over the next few days.

I feel a tirade coming on. I would have thought that the auction would have been pulled by now but as it is now Good Friday, a public holiday, followed by Easter Monday, another public holiday the chances of anything happening are slim.
The auction will have ended and the two reels passed into public ownership. What the seller should do is end the auction and return them to the auction house who sold them, in turn they can return them to the seller.
Alas $$$ are showing and I doubt it, including eBay and despite all the sugar coated mush that they put out regarding "our community" all they are interested in money.
By the way the logos are engraved on not stamped, managed to get the seller to send some more pictures and he and his reels plus Hardy's actions and ebay will feature in the next issue of Antique Tackle Observer.
