Question from LeakyWaders at Clark's board.
This reel was made in Tuxedo, NY. Does anyone know anything about these?
Thanks

Value approx. $300--$450, I understand very well made.

thanks Steve, I offered to post his photos over there if I could post them over here as well.
What a good-looking reel.

Payne was a seller of these and they can be seen in their catalogs.
They are very well made, but the bearings are prone to trouble and many of them develop a "hitch" in them, or a sticky spot.
I've seen the salmon models struggle to reach $200 on FleaBay and the trout models only do marginally better.

Hey Steve,
This is one of the reels made with precision ball bearings and offered by Abercrombie & Fitch ca. 1949! Cool.

Old!? Geezer and I beg to differ. The PBBs may predate at least one of us (me, for example), but the reel doesn't. It's vintage, not old.
As Dean indicated, maybe the PBBs were not an asset.

I agree with Steve. Ads for these reels are plentiful in my "Fly Reels Post WWII" file in which I store ads for all the "newer" fly reels. They didn't advertise the salmon size widely, but the trout reel sold for $22.50 through A&F (as Teal mentions) VL&A in Chicago, and by mail order. I only have ads from 1946.
