Hey everyone, I recently acquired an older Garcia Mitchell 440 fishing reel. It's in decent shape and seems to be functional (makes a clicking sound when reeling). The bail seems to work, but you can't just flip it back like you do with newer reels. It seems like you push it down to let it flip up. Is this how it is supposed to work? I'm not sure of the year it was made, but its a metal frame, and paint is in fair condition (some chipping around the spool. I'd like to sell it, but I'm not sure of how much it is worth. Can anyone give me an estimate/offer? I'm pretty new to vintage gear.
Dillon,
$15, maybe $20 max, in that condition. There's an awful lot of rash on the cup so it's a user, only. Other than the clicking noise you mention, it sounds like it is working correctly.
Thanks Tommy.
I realized that there is a gear inside that acts as a clicker when the anti-reverse is engaged. Once I turned that off, it still makes a winding/clicking noise in the gears, but not as bad. Took the time to clean all of the gunk off of it today and it cleaned up nicer than I thought - apart from all the chipped paint. It was on a Berkley Lightning Rod I picked up at a flea market for $2.50, and I didn't even notice it until I got home.
