Indiana type reel find

Post by Jim Nedela »

Just picked up this Indiana type reel. All brass, no markings. Any help with ID, comments? Thanks, Jim Nedela. ... 135178.jpg

It looks a lot like this "Spider" reel made by D&T Specialty Mfg. Co., Ft. Wayne, but with different construction features. It might have been a predecessor to the D&T, a variation made by D&T, or a copycat design made by another co.

D&T copies

Post by Jim Schottenham »

Jim, the round nut on your reel is a match to this reel, another D&T copy, unsigned, that pop up from time to time. All have the folded back arm ends, and each one I've seen has a different handle grasp. Neat reel! What size is it?

More evidence that reelmakers can't count:

Does anyone have a similar reel with 7 or more arms? With fewer than 4? (Even a reelmaker probably wouldn't make a 1-arm model.)

Apologies to both Jims.
