South Bend Rell Collection

Post by qwapaw »

Good morning all, I was contacted by a gentleman named Larry Lucas in Florida because a friend of his passed away and the wife wanted to know how to sell his South Bend Reel collection. When I asked for a list of what she had he e-mailed me back and said he had not seen it but was told it consisted of "several hundred reels" and they had decided to auction them off at the FATC convention in Florida. Don't who would be interested but the mans e-mail address is . I suggested he let the folks at ORCA know about this and have watched but I have not seen anything about it. He did post on Joe's board though. Good luck to all, Dan U from Oregon.

These reels was from the collection of Jim Music. Jim Madden may know something about what he had.

Reel collection

Post by Jim Madden »

Larry Lucas emailed me to see if I would be willing to help with pricing on the collection. He gave me the number of the gentleman helping with a ballpark appraisal for the sale. When I called, I was told that Jim had a couple hundred metal rods, some in pieces, and many South bend reels in and out of boxes. I guess there are crates of parts also. All of it was fairly common. They said they didn't need any help with appraisals. When Jim's interest turned elsewhere a couple of years ago, he gave me first shot at anything in his SB reel collection. I hit it fairly hard as did two others after me. He definitely did well with that part of the collection. I don't believe there would be any sleepers left though. I know he has one of the SB books but I understand the sister is planning to keep it. At any rate, I really hope the family comes out with some good proceeds from Jim's collection. He sure loved studying the history of reels. Jim
