I can't find any pictures of a Montague Neptune so any ideas of finding jewelled end caps without pictures would be most difficult. I have a huge amount of caps but no way to identify without pictures.

I finally found a picture of the Neptune and none of the Jeweled caps in my 100 or more caps match. Sorry

How about a pic? Maybe I have a set that will work.

RM,

Check this for size and type. This is actually NOB, but I have a couple hundred reels coming in tomorrow so I may have a match in there - but currently I don't have a single Monty to check this against for threading.

Len,

They look right but the inside diameter is different than yours. However, I have a VL & A that has some that are made like yours. They will interchange with the ones I have that fit my Neptune which are currently on my Ultra Cast and VL & A Tournament reels. The difference is the outside dimension of the ones on the VL & A is smaller than the Ultra cast. I would be willing to try the ones you have. I would need 3 total. Let me know.

Interesting thread. Here's my Neptune reel, which only has the jeweled oil cap on the front, not the back. They both appear to match and be original to this reel (although that's probably impossible to know for sure). Maybe the day the original buyer of this reel bought it the sale was only for Neptune's with one jewel, not two?

I don't know if they ever came with one jeweled and one not but I have a non jeweled one on my Neptune and have had them in the past that were jeweled on both sides. I am told that the Milam Rustic #3 did sometimes have one jeweled and one non-jeweled. So it seems reasonable that other companies may have done the same.

On all the Montague reels they were originally jeweled or plain on BOTH ends. The end caps were made in two thread sizes, one was 3/16" dia. and the other was 5/16" dia. threads. The Neptune used 3/16" dia. threads.

Richard - your reel most likely had a replaced oil cap sometime in it's long past.

Jon, I agree. I ran over the reel with my backhoe, so it would fit into a flat mailing envelope. I'll mail it in the morning. :bricks:
