There's no place like Wyoming. The Rubber Reel Lady and I left Bert the Boykin with our Son and Daughter in law yesterday (Friday) morning and headed east. The weather was beautiful - clear and 50s. However, when entering Wyoming we began to see skiffs of snow along the highway. Around Rock Spring we found several inches along the road and signs that the interstate had been plowed recently. Upon arriving for the night in Rawlins, we learned that Interstate 80 had been closed Thursday night with about a foot of snow in a sudden storm. There was still 3-4 inches at the motel. The temperature was 28 with prediction of 18 overnight.
Oh well, on to Cabela's today for a shopping spree.
As strange as it sounds, even though I'm flying in to Texas, I'll be stopping in at a Cabelas on the way to Columbia Lakes. My friend says that there's a new one that's opened up outside of Fort Worth. We'll hit it on the way driving over. I may be tempted to pick up a new Goretex rainsuit while I'm there. But then again I may just have to use the linseed coated, canvas one I'm bringing for my "1920's vintage" get up.
Brian, Of course there's the Grapevine Bass Pro Shops at DFW airport and then you could hit Gander Mountain on I-45 toward Houston. . . Then you haven't lived until you've been to Fishing Tackle Unlimited on I-45 south of Houston at Almeda Genoa. But by then it would be Saturday and you'd have missed the big show.
Nothing Like Springtime in the Rockies. We drove from Rawlins to Cheyenne in snow with semi trucks whorling blizzards around us. It was a nightmare. We then had an easy ride from Cheyenne on to Cabela's, but I had a lousy shopping spree. All the stuff on my list was not in stock. Marilyn had a good time, however.
On to Nebraska, where we are spending the night in the small town of Lexington. This is being written on the motel computer in the lobby.
Tomorrow we go south through Kansas and Oklahoma. What's this rain I see on the weather channel?
Now I'm getting all nostalgiac, I grew up in Lexington, Nebraska. Phil, I worked for three years at the McDonalds just off I-80 that you will probably eat breakfast at tomorrow. If you have a couple hours in the morning, my dad said the walleye are hitting at the inlet at Johnson Lake, about 10 minutes south of Lexington.
Hey, I like this road trip revue! I haven't been up in that area for 30 years and haven't seen snow for 25. Looking foward for more reporting from Phil "Rand McNally" White. See Ya all on Wed. and will tell you how it looked from thirty five thousand feet!

Well, the third day went a bit better. No McDonalds, Bill. They had a great breakfast at the motel and I stuffed myself on biscuits and gravy. Then I guess we drove right by Johnson lake before I was able to read your message. We drove straight south using the back country roads. An easy ride through Nebraska, Kansas and into Oklahoma. We stopped to visit the Washada battlefield and Black Kettle Museum in Cheyenne, OK, and had a nice visit with the caretaker. We are now in Sayre, OK for the night. We travel the hill country of Texas tomorrow. It was cloudy with a few showers today, but it's getting warmer - Thank Goodness.
