The Rosewood knob is a nice touch on this early Mitchell.

In my opinion, the reserve is higher than the reel is worth.

It will definitely be interesting given what it is, no primer and it still has a fair amount of original paint left.

I checked the reel and all the pictures. The reel looks 100% original. This first version doesn't have " Made in France" on the back side where the 2nd version does and the ones that follwed. There are a few other variations that you would need a close up inspection to verify. Excellent reel. In Dennis Roberts " Mitchell Reference Collectors Guide" he lists this as Super Rare and cannot determine a general value because so few if any are sold..... Reserve probably in the $2000 range. I wonder how much he haggled over it from the people he purchased it from????????

Ben list's it, in his 2011 guide, as "Super Rare" and @ "$1200.00" in "Like New" condition. It's in pretty good shape for not having primer, and based on its appearance $600 - $750 seems more realistic, but then again, as Publilius Syrus wrote: "Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it", and 5, or possibly 6 if you include the seller, think it's worth more than $600. So, I guess that shows how much I know. :)

I think you've got a good fix on this reel, Tommy. 1200 would be absolute tops only if you knew the owner and where the reel came from.

It's been relisted at no reserve starting at $1500. That's way too much for me. We'll see what happens this time.
