Photos from ORCA 2016 at Buckberry Creek
Finally have a chance to post an assortment of photos from yesterday and today.
I'll start with Dennis "Mac" McNulty fishing in Norton Creek, the private trout stream where about a dozen of us fished today. Dennis did quite well in this catch-and-release stream full of plunge pools and stocked rainbows. Heck I saw him catch 2 fish even after he had snapped the tip off the bamboo Phillipson rod he was using.
Colby Sorrells gave a very helpful fly casting clinic Thursday morning on the lawn where the casting tournament will be held on Friday.
Part of the crowd watching Colby, although it appears there was some daydreaming going on at the time.
Enjoying some downtime out on the patio at Buckberry.
This afternoon, members who had displays set up talked about what they brought. It was really interesting and sure to become an education annual event. Here's Jim Schottenham talking about the unique collection of Sellers reel parts, including some original notes, drawings and the pattern for the wooden turned reel knob.
Butch Carey hefted the big tuna reel in his display, an unmarked, unidentified but well-made machine.
A really amazing treat after fishing today was a rare visit to the home of Earl Worsham and his wife Margit Brooks-Worsham. Earl was a longtime friend of the late reelmaker Stan Bogdan. Earl not only laid out his Bogdans for us to paw over, but told some great stories about Stanley, who was quite a character. Ya gotta love those reels (which Earl uses for salmon fishing, I should note).

Looks like you have a great time.

Yes I would loved to have been there and heard about the reels,
but also to be among other reel collectors.
I have sold some of my reels, so I have only 5 Bogdan's left.
Jonathan we should meet again by the next ORCA show.

May be somewhere far away again. Had hoped to make this one but my nurse duties got in the way. Haven't added much to the collection lately. Couple of New rods and reels. Too much already. Good to see the pictures.
About time for another one of your expeditions isn't it?

Thanks for posting comments, folks. Jacob, it was clear from hearing Earl talk about Stan Bogdan and his (Earl's) Bogdan reels that he loves using them, like you do, and has caught quite a salmon in his years of fishing.
Sorry all of you couldn't be hear. Show set up is going on now, followed by the annual dinner. I'll post more photos from today after that.

Great looking bunch of people and looks like everyone's having a lot of fun!

Wouldn't I have enjoyed being there with you guys - just a bit far from New Zealand but I can dream! Who owns the collection of Swedish reels, my main interest, in the Jim Schottenham photograph? I would like to make contact with this collector.
Re: Photos from ORCA 2016 at Buckberry Creek
Shawn Moorshead has the Abu collection. He is a new member and was highlighted in the New Member Spotlight last year.

Thanks for the info Betty - I thought it might be Shawn as he told me he was going to the convention. I will contact him directly.

Thanks to everyone who attended, produced and participated in this years show. The property, weather, activities and information was amazing. I left with lots of old tackle acquired there, saw old friends and made new ones.
The plans for the future are very exciting and we look forward to ORCA's future and next years get together eagerly.

I'm still waiting for a final count from Roger, but I would estimate about 40 members, plus quite a few guests, attended.
