The reels are clearly based on the same concept but have implementation differences. This Ustonson is circa 1800 and while the other is also very old I would guess it is a bit younger.
Comparing these two made me wonder if Ustonson marked trade reels made by others or whether Ustonson made reels and sold some unbranded like this example. The clicker on both sound great but the unmarked reel sings a little more sweetly... maybe because the faceplate is not engraved.
The Ustonson foot is an ancient replacement using 5 pins. The unmarked reel has 6 neatly arranged pins plus a central brass alignment nib. The foot is amazing with its little rim cutouts. The replacement foot on my Ustonson has some interesting symbols from whatever antique donor object was repurposed into a foot.
Both have ivory grasps but the Ustonson one looks much more aged.
I doubt anyone can answer the question on who made what for who but its intriguing.
