Even More Holzmann Reel Photos
Jay White was gracious enough to send me photos of some his Holzmann reels to post on my website. Click on the link below to view them.

Re: Even More Holzmann Reel Photos
NICE ADDITIONS! ESPECIALLY THE STAR DRAG! That's only the second I've seen with a external drag. The other has a round drag instead of a star. My version has an additional friction drag built-in to the center of the handle. There are 2 more versions of the small tournament models pictured. 1 version stands about 2" tall but the spools only about 3/4 wide. That reels on the west coast. The other reels larger and built in the same fashion, also without pillars. It's about the size of a standard Perez figure between a 1 or 2-0. Meisselbach also used that design on their tournament models. About 15-17 years ago I sold this version to Phil. I do have the photos but will need some time. There on a disk in 1 of many reel case that have been put away many years ago. Recently l did find the photo of the 2" narrowed spool Holzman. Believe l may have sent 1 to Ray H. in PA next to a 20-0 Farlow for size comparison. May take some time but I'll make an honest effort. Tight Lines Nick in NY

Oddly, the star wheel is marked with JVH's patent date. Could we see the guts, please?

Re: Even More Holzmann Reel Photos
How right you are Steve, I caught that too. Looks like a star wheel off a Julius vom Hofe B-Ocean to me. I have attached a photo of a star with the same patent that is on a B-Ocean below. The star on the JVH B-Ocean in the photo is cupped near the center however, some B-Ocean stars were completely flat like the one appearing on the Holzmann.

Also, when you blow up the photo of the two reels they appear to be identical except for the star drag and other changes made under the handle, perhaps aftermarket alterations to convert it to a star drag reel? As Steve requested, can you post some photos of both reels opened up side by side?

Nick sent me some great pics of yet another Holzmann, this one a larger size Tuna reel. Due to time change, I didn't get an answer from him as to which Meek is in the comparison for size in the bottom pic below, but I'm sure he can come fill in the dialogue in the morning....nice reel, Nick! I'm jealous!
