Re: Leonard Reel
That's cheating, Paul....we are trying to figure out why, when Dick posts a pic from his computer, our program won't show it.....not sure what he is doing wrong. He says he is doing the normal, i.e.,
image upload>select pics>choose>upload all> regular or thumbnail> post...but it's not posting.
Dick, if something is different in the order of things I've listed above, let me know and try in that order.

Re: Leonard Reel
You shouldn't be "opening" anything.....just choose, then "upload all" and the rest....that must be the fatal flaw

Re: Leonard Reel
Dick, & others,
Here's a thought. After you have put your post together click on "Preview" next to Submit at the bottom your post window. You should get a view of what it will look like once you post it to the site. If you don't see a picture in the preview the image file may be too big. If that is the case you would need to go back and resize or compress your photo(s) so it/they can be displayed. That's the only thing I can think of since it looks like you're doing it correctly.

Re: Leonard Reel
I understand what Dick is saying. When I upload images my Mac operating system gives me a window of directories and files. Once I click one or more pictures, I then have to click my operating system's "Choose" or "Cancel" icons in order for the image to be selected and put into the upload menu. I guess Dick's OS uses the "open" prompt. I think he did everything right. I agree with Tom. His pic was uploaded all along. His code now works. I don't know why it didn't display but perhaps doing a Preview will ensure you can confirm the code works.
Occasionally last year when I had intermittent internet connectivity problems at my home I had trouble getting images to upload to the ORCA site. So maybe a momentary internet connectivity glitch at Dick's location can explain this anomaly.

Paul,I have tried looking at the preview and all it shows in the message box is the letters and numbers in the code. " Still No Picture" .Thanks for all the help from everyone...

Re: Leonard Reel
Here is a pic I just uploaded followed by a video showing how I did it. I assume you did exactly the same. Notice on the left there is an option for [img] that is ON in my case.

Re: Leonard Reel
Interesting, Paul, to see the Mac process. I don't have the "Load Draft" icon on my screen. Looks like it does the same as "Submit". Wonder what the differences of that aspect are about?
I use the "Post Reply" button rather than "Full Editor" in the "Quick Reply" window. Both get the same result in the end, though.

Re: Leonard Reel
Tom, I have a draft of a post I didn't submit so that's probably why it is prompting me to load it onto the current session. That is a feature of the ORCA site vs my operating system

Re: Leonard Reel
Makes sense. I never do or save a draft so that's probably why I've never run across that button or feature before.Paul M wrote:Tom, I have a draft of a post I didn't submit so that's probably why it is prompting me to load it onto the current session. Re: Leonard Reel
I think Dick is doing everything correctly, but there is something here we need to fix. I hope that you haven't lost patience and will help us figure this out so we can improve the user experience for all members.Dick Janak wrote:Paul,no choose button anywhere. The BBC code shows it is ON .Is that something?
Betty approached me to help with updating the website and board, and one of her wishes was to improve the image upload capabilities of the site. This board has one of the best image management features available anywhere, but it can be challenging to use. However, I think we have a mystery that we need to pursue so others won't experience it.
The facts around this post are that Dick is clearly uploading the image and pasting the image link into the edit window. He is correct in using the Open button on his Windows machine to choose the file. We know this for sure because we can paste the link created by the upload into any posting and preview his image. Paul did that also. So why is the image link not being interpreted by our phpBB?
I looked at all user permissions, and it does not seem to be anything prohibiting him from uploading or posting any image. I tried to find any way to actually override this (recreate the situation by trying to do the same thing) and there is only one way I can see. There is a flag associated with every post that enables you to "disable BBCode". If that flag is on, then any BBCode in the post will not be interpreted. That is useful if you are writing a post showing someone how to post something, but otherwise should never be used on a normal post. For some reason, this flag is on for Dick. I duplicated this by selecting the "disable BBCode" feature in my sample posting below. You can see if you look closely that I checked that option, and then clicked Preview. You can see that I was then able to duplicate Dick's post.

So what we need Dick to do, if he wants to help solve this mystery and help others, is:
- copy that image code out of his original post
reply to this post
Make sure the Disable BBCode option is not checked
paste that link into the editor
Press the Preview button
Scroll up and view the Preview section and tell us what he sees.
Ideally, Dick might use the screen capture feature of Windows to capture the preview screen and show us. You would have to do Alt-PrSc and then paste the image into Paint or an image editor and then upload that or email to me. I know that is tough, so maybe you can PM me and we can set up a call.

Hi Guys,I think you have found the problem,I have to take the flag off the BBCode when I want to post a picture...It looks ok now..Thank you all very much for all the hard work.....Dick
Re: Leonard Reel
Whew, THANK YOU, Matt, Paul, Tommy, JE and most of all, Dick, for sticking with this. It may have come up before but we rarely see any problem with that setting and don't know why it was changed for Dick's account. I agree that the photo upload feature is something pretty amazing and that it could be refined.

Re: Leonard Reel
Dick,
One last thing. We need to understand why the Disable BBCode checkbox was on for you. Once you turned it off, it stayed off, correct? Can you explain how you think it was turned on?

Re: Leonard Reel
In the User Control Panel>Board Preferences>Edit Posting Defaults, the first option is :
At least on my screen, regardless of whether this value is set to YES or NO, your full editor menu for a post shows the following at lower left:
I assume the standard setup for all users is YES, unless the value is changed by the User to say NO.Enable BBCode by default: Yes No
At least on my screen, regardless of whether this value is set to YES or NO, your full editor menu for a post shows the following at lower left:
...then looking at the check box in the bottom centre section for Disable BBCode, that will be unchecked if the individual's Board Posting preferences were set to NO but it will automatically be checked (thus disabling the BBCode) if the Board Posting preferences setting was set to YES. Also you can selectively check or uncheck the Disable BBCode checkbox. So in Dick's case, IMHO he either has his Board Preferences for BBCode set to NO or he somehow checked the Disable BBCode checkbox. Confused?Options:
BBCode is ON
