Remember the Alamo
I recently was able to acquire some more Shakespeare Alamo reels for my collection but realize how little seems to be known about this model. In the catalogs or copies I have, it first appears in the 1907 catalog as a take-down reel, available in 60- and 80-yd. sizes, again in the 1909 catalog, and finally in the 1910 catalog in four models, the same two take-downs and two solid-frames. My next catalog is 1913 where it doesn't appear. Does anyone have any more information to contribute about this short-lived model?

You got any pics you can post, Robyn? I know nothing about these reels...but why they disappeared probably relates to what reels APPEARED in 1913, eh?

Re: Remember the Alamo
Robyn,
I have an early catalog from C. & W. McLean Company of St. Louis which offers the "Alamo" in both jeweled and non-jeweled versions, in both sizes. The catalog is supposedly from 1909. The illustration shows the clicker on the tail plate. Neither the 1909 or 1910 Shakespeare catalogs mention a jeweled version. Let me know if you'd like a copy of the McLean catalog.
Also, I notice the 1907 catalog states the clicker is on the tail plate, drag on the face plate, and the 1910 catalog mentions the same. However, the 1909 edition shows both the clicker and drag on the face plate. Rather odd.
