I took the faceplate off this very nice BC Milam No.3 yesterday and the support plate for the click and drag had 2 cracks. I wonder how that happened. It just shows that you never know what you will find.
The cracks are so straight and parallel that the circlular piece might have been made from three pieces . It would take a lot of constant pressure to get this result . I wonder if the circular piece was too thin for the strength it required.
We can't figure it out either. It is probably one very thin plate that got too much pressure from being compressed. The outside shows no evidence of being dropped.
What I have found is that the best way to examine any part of a reel is to take a high resolution image and then enlarge it. I always see things I would have missed otherwise.

Great idea and a good cellphone works great on the fly for this.
