Olympic Fishing Tackle Co. LTD

Post by Ed Rods »

I had seen some post that seam to be having trouble obtaining information about the Olympic reels. So I am Sharing what I have found out about this company. This information may have already been posted but if it had I couldn't find anything researching post.

The best that I can do with the research that I have done is as follows. The trade mark for Olympic Fishing Tackle Co. Which is the markings on reel boxes that I have seen Along with OLM International Corp. which is a distributer in the US for Olympic Fishing Tackle Co. I have seen mentioned in forums that they have seen dates as early as 1961. From my research the trade mark was assigned on April 27.1979. and was abandoned on July 19, 1994. There was another trade mark assigned to Olympic Fishing Tackle Co. Under the name of OLYMPET. Filing date 2/8/1978. and was abandoned on July 19, 1994 the same date as Olympic abandoned it’s trade mark. There has been many other names associated with Olympic reels. Such as Seiko, Ryobi, and others. They may have been the owners and shared the trade mark. There is not enough information to find out who the owners were. There is a law firm mentioned in the trade mark information that is a contact for this trade mark.
O.L.M. International Corp. and Olympic Fishing Tackle Co. LTD can be found on all reel sheets that was distributed with reels.

Um, I’m not sure what this post was about, or if there was a question there somewhere.

But, it should be known that Olympic had long standing ties, or entwinement with, another company called Mamiya.

They married or merged, and became Mamiya-OP.
There was a good deal of business with various products for a long time.

IIRC they sort of morphed again, maybe having to do with USSC and Fin Nor and a Swedish guy named Niels and Ebisu…?? My memory is somewhat hazy and muddled on that part.

There is a timeline here (i was going to post screenshots, but there is just way too much information)

https://www.mamiya-op.co.jp/en/company/history/

Hope that helps
Rob

EDIT: just realized that this is an old zombie thread, and I fell for it. Sorry

Dr. Rob,

There was some fairly in depth discussion regarding the Olympic genealogy in this thread a few years back that discusses the same information in the link you provided (although, at least all of yours is in English :D )
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
