Thought on this Four Brothers (Pflueger) candidate

Post by spadej1 »

I just picked up this unmarked 40yd hard rubber fly reel for a price that I could afford, mostly because of it's condition. I'm perfectly happy with it, and it should clean up well enough to display. I'm pretty sure that it is a Four Brothers/Pflueger, maybe a Delite. It has a large crack in the rear plate and a crack in the handle knob, and the plating is worn in many spots. This type of reel usually costs way more than I can afford, so I had to take what I could get. Here are a few photos to show the details, and I would appreciate any input on whether I have it labelled correctly. At least as correct as you can be on an unmarked reel. Thanks!

It's an unmarked 4-Bros. Delite that will clean up well and the cracked end plate can be repaired. The ORCA book on cleaning-restoration has the technique. That book will pay for itself in one reel cleanup!
Nice little reel. You should feel lucky!

Thanks for confirming my suspicions. I'm working on building my book collection, and the cleaning/restoration is on my list. I really like these small casting/fly reels, especially the hard rubber ones. Some(most) of them are outside of my budget, but once in a while you can get lucky!
