An old Penn Senator Reel

Post by Guest »

I have gotten an old reel from my wife's grandfother who has since passed along. He left me with his tackle box and inside i found a Penn Senator 113s-4/o. I have all the orignal paperwork that came with the reel and even have the oil it came with. I have called and also gone online with penn and they are telling me that predates anything they have info on. I would really like some help here. I would like to find out how old it is. When I opened the box it was in, I about hit the fan. This reel has maybe been used onced. It is in perfect condition. It also has some engraving on one side with the ocean with a boat that just hooked a marlin that is jumping out the water. I have never seen anything like it before. I also would like to see if I can get some type info on the reel itself. I am a big fisherman but have not used a baitcaster but once or twice. I am still trying to learn. PLEASE HELP!

Penn Senator

Is there any way you can post a picture of the box? My guess is that the box is considerably more valuable than the reel.

Dear Guest: This is a great reel for fishing and that's why there are a ton of them out there...i.e., you won't retire off it's sale and should either keep it as a family memento in that great condition or put it back to work. Having said that, some have more value than others. If it is in the light blue box with metal fasteners on the corners, then it is a later model. If in the colorful box with the surf fisherman on the side, then it is more desirable to a collector, but more for the complete package than the reel itself. i don't believe that reel came in the earliest penn boxes, but I'm sure 120 people here can correct me on that (and will!). They have made that reel continuously for at least 50 years, with changes in color and quality throughout the years..in ex condition, will range from $40-60. You can go to the ebay completed auctions and find the ones that match your vintage and see what they bring.

:) 8) :?:  cool-thumb USA Guest, first thing you want to do is remove the line, you can save it by winding it on a board, Then check to see if the reel turns without any jumps or out of bal. of the spool. Was the owner near salt water? or Fresh water? as stated by other members on this post, the box and the paperwork may be of more value than the reel, however those reels are( TANKS) and real work reels! put just a few, 2 drops of oil in the end caps, and back off the end caps or bearing caps 1 turn this will take presure off the spool and frame, and keep things in line with weather changes. You have the paperwork so look at the diagram to oil! no need to take the reel apart! clean the serface with a coton rag and enjoy your reel! Dear Guest:

As has been stated above, we need to see the box. If you can email me a picture of your reel/box, I will post it here for everyone to see. It's POSSIBLE that your combo of items has a substantial value (more than $300). My email address is:

We welcome you to our board.
