Help with Orvis

Post by guest »

I've been trying to take the cup off an Orvis 100 spinning reel to get at the stuff behind it. Anybody know how to do this? I'm afraid I'll screw something up if I try to force it...

:o :?  :!: :?:  cool-thumb USA My advise is! UNLES you have the factory paper ie. tear down sheet, you are asking for a large headache ! If you have the cover off, note the set screw on the main shaft going to the crank arm, remove it! pull out the main shaft, next very carefuly take out the set screw closest to the front of your housing, Now the work begings, if your reel is dirty and stuck you need to soke that part in Marvel Oil for a day! now very carefuly work the asembly off the frame, after you have removed the housing nut off the front of the rotor cup. You must watch the spring loaded pin that acts as the bail trip, and its tough to replace! Note parts are hard to find for these reels! the only person I would let do this work or get parts from is DONNIE TUCKER Of North Carolina, a ORCA and NFLCC member, he specilizes in ORVIS REELS his email is ( ) he also has parts for these reels! Do I work on them? only when I have to as I have very few parts anymore! My advise? take Off cover, remove the main shaft, leave the handle alone unless you have a spaner wrench< wash out the reel with mineral spirts , and use compresed air to blow off the dirt and crud! Whenreel is clean and dried off, relube with a silicon or teflone oil and lightly grease the drivin and drive gear with grease! Your Ohio conection on Lake ERIE Col. M. lorens aka SWIM JIG

Milt, (you probably know this) - this reel is an Italian Pelican spinning reel.

Pelicans In ITALY?

Post by SWIM JIG »

:) 8) :?:  cool-thumb yay-banana USA Ok Ron I saw the (made in ITALY) on the reels I have , I still say they are a hard nut to crack and parts a hard to find! I am lookling at 2 of mine one has a ( Alceado handle on it ! HMMMM! They are metric and they nee very close fitting screwdrivers etc, if a spring goes bad, to make the reel work properly the springs must fit with proper clearance no SLOP or No Binds, yes Alcedo parts will and do interchange , then again time is a element and when you work by the way most shops do , so much a reel then what happens when you spend 2 or more hrs on a reel Charge 2to 2&1/2 times to work on it? Talk about a hornets nest or backlash! My advise stands ! Don tucker is a expert in these reels, and a novice should contact experts, as if they have that one item brake, get a bend or lose it the reel is SCRAP! They are are the same order of D.A.M. s except parts are easy to find for D.A.M.s Now a quick question is the rotor cup nut left or right hand thraeds and yes you need a 6 point socket to remove it as its soft plated brass! Again, you probably know this Milt, but I looked up the recent article in ATO, - the Pelican300/Orvis100 reel was made by Zangi.
Curious about the Alcedo parts fitting.
