Ocean City "Jones Beach" reel, pre-1938?

I paid $15 for this Ocean City "Jones Beach" reel today at a tackle swap meet. The reel is constructed differently then the "Jones Beach" reels I have previously encountered. Anyway the two main differences are the inclusion of a star drag mechanism and a rear solid metal side plate. The "Jones Beach" on the OC site shows this reel with bakelite sides and without the star drag. The oldest OC catalog I have is #38, which shows this reel with bakelite sides(front & rear), so I'm guessing this reel is a version prior to 1938. Any input would be appreciated.
