All ORCA retirees, grab your July /Aug AARP Mag, flip to page 101. What's the reel the gals holding ? Left handed reel on a Heddon rod ?

To R.R. Lady
I know we're not on the same page, are we on the same book ? AARP Magazine, July / Aug. 2005 . Picture of Candice Bergen on cover, total of 116 pages. I have no way of sending picture of page 101 and that reel. LT :

AARP Magazine
I have a copy dated JulylAugust 2005, with Candice Bergen on the cover and 84 pages. Does this mean OG and I have a second-class membership?

My copy of AARP has an ad for 'The Villages' on page 101 showing a couple on a golf green! They're trying to sell upscale retirement homes, but strangely do not even say where! Page 107 however has a '50s looking B&W photo of a woman w/rod in her right hand, resting on her shoulder. The reel looks like one of the small chrome levelwind Pfluegers, w/backlash control, perhaps an Akron. Oddly it appears to be a lefty, they might have reversed the image to fit the "Know when to fold 'em" piece.

AARP Reel ...
I 'll agree with your id of the reel as an Akron . I never realized this AARP mag. has as many variations as does the "Akron" ! Wonder what determines the distribution of the various volumes ? As far as your prize ? I may offer my busted scanner ,which is why I couldn't send pictures of the reel in the first place. Any way, thanks for your response and welcome to the Club. LT
AARP mystery reel
Presuming that the reel in question is indeed a Pflueger Akron can anybody tell us if they made lefty versions of this reel? I've have a small Pflueger collection & have looked at a large number of the small levelwind models, but do not ever recall noticing a lefties among them. The reel in the photo cranks w/left hand, was the image reversed or what?
Regarding the different variations of AARP & other magazines, it can be disconcerting at times. My mention of the ad on page 101 being for "The Villages" w/o even mentioning the city or state these homes were sold in is a good example. Common enough name, could be in practically any state. I know of a development by that name south of me here in FL, but no reason to think there aren't others elsewhere. You'd need to make contact just to find out where!
