Penobscot River smallmouth bass

Post by Penobscot Bill »

The section of the Penobscot River I fish this time of year is just upstream of a dam and holds some big fish. The river today was 38 degrees but the fishing was red hot-on the bottom in 24' did the trick. Normally these temperatures generate weak strikes but today they were thumping it good. The last four weeks of fishing have been by far the best fishing I've had in ten years. Pound for pound, and inch for inch, the gamest fish that swims. And of course, I was using Mitchell 308s. Life is good.

Pound for pound AND inch for inch
the are the best...especially in a
moving stream with a fly rod, rather
that than trout fishing.Doin` it the
last 65 years, from 2003 back! Plan
on next year also. Do have to admit
salt water fish right up there.
