Time for the Fair again and decided to continue the tacklebox saga for another round. Switched to Peruvian walnut and wenge, which made for a bit of angst. Luckily, lots of coats of tongue oil and sanding in between finally brought out the good side of the wood! Lacewood bass and yellowheart lure

Thanks, Paul...I did this one more in Entarsia style by mounting the fish and lure on a wenge board rather than spending a lot of effort whacking out spots to put them in relief, then spending more time on damage control. I went ahead and glued this in place, but would envision mounting with screws so it could be changed to whatever one might want the box to represent....ie., favorite fresh or saltwater fish and/or lure...or a flower, if you're more inclined toward jewelry storage

That would be at the exotic woods store, BB! we have several out here and Rockler has a puddle as well. Pricey stuff! slice off and use sparingly, like they were truffles

Wow, now that’s a wonderful birthday present, pulling up this ancient thread! Thanks for the nostalgia and all the nice comments! I must admit, i love that box! Hope i can get back to it some day if i get the metalwork under control.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JE! A slight coincidence going on here, mine was Wed. I've always said it was just another day, but I'm starting to appreciate more and more when the Good Lord blesses me with another one each year!
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels!(Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
