I SAW CRAIG BARBER!!!!!!!

Post by Harvey »

Yep, There he was! While shuffling thru the show
room floor at the NFLCC nationals, something away
from the norm caught my eye. I glanced to my right
and lo and behold, CRAIG BARBER! I will attest that
the numerous stories that have been floating around
are not true. He has not been kidnapped by a space
ship nor has a swamp monster from Georgia eaten
him and he is not on special assignment for the CIA
somewhere in the Yang-Hun Mountains in China. He
is alive and well and was present in Louisville.

That's him on the LEFT!

Sure was good to se some people that I haven’t
seen in many years and be able to attach faces to
names that I see from time to time on the net. I would
safely say the ORCA’ians were well represented at the
show. I really wasn’t impressed at the show but what
should I expect! Too much politics! Best quote of the
day I heard was, “Well, ORCA must be doing something
right when the most important thing that was discussed
in the last year was the cut-off timeframe to be attached
to the Antique Fishing Contest”. Didn’t see or find anything
that I had to have and came home with one reel and one
lure. Did get to meet a user of this board in Don Noll and
had a chat with him. Sorry that I missed the Doctor Todd
Larson but met his lovely wife and daughter. And Oh yea,
Henry and I HAD to discuss what a GREAT time we were
having while Schottenham was missing out. All in all, it
was worth the drive from Cincy and can’t wait till Albany.

Hey! Great to see and hear everyone's having a good time even though the gigantic crowds seem to be missing. Nice to see all the familiar faces...well, we know who you familiar people are :D Hey, if any of you want to take close up pictures of your tables, maybe we could do an ORCA version of QVC - "For the next ten minutes, prices will be dropped to 50% off..."

Harvey, you back in FL already?

Have a good time at the rest of the National everyone!

Yes, that is quite a little school of ORCA people. Ok, I'll take the test - "Know Your ORCA-nians" : Craig Barber, Dave Erickson (did'ja haul the camper all the way over there too?), Phil W., Dave Gaustad, Marilyn "Rubber Reel Lady" W., and, behind the ORCA sign I think it's safe to say, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Schulz (Heeeeyyyy...wait just a minute, Roger, is that little hard rubber / german silver reel peeking out from under your tackle box for sale? I'm interested!)

Sorry Brian, Roger is not selling that reel yet. He hid it behind that tackle box because he needs to oil it up for some big bucks. His buddy Dave is helping him with pricing!

Harvey,

It was really nice getting to meet you, finally! Enjoy your stay UP NORTH! My first National was the Kent Show, I forget most of the reels and lures that have passed through my hands, but I remember the CLASSIC people I have met!

Hey Harvey!

I searched and searched for you on the floor but couldn't find you. If you are in Cincinnati for awhile let me know as I return back on Sat. night. Sorry we missed each other.

Spent a lot of time with Bob Miller, Craig Barber, et al. Hung around the ORCA table and even talked ol' Bob into buying a marked Sterling (Pflueger) reel from Roger.

Just to show you how crazy these lure guys were, Bob didn't sell his sweet Golden West for $250.00 -- I mean c'mon guys, you'd think SOMEONE would have bought it knowing they could probably get $400 or more on 'bay. Oh well. These lure guys are crazy. Watched a guy buy a PLASTIC lure for $750. Sheesh.

Oh the highlight of the show was the 14/0 Vom Hofe. $6000 and worth every penny. A true work of art. Also the great Gayle exhibit and the single most amazing collection of classic reels and documentation I have ever seen--Frank Perkins' surreal Talbot exhibit. I simply couldn't believe how much documentation he had.

I got my MANCO trade reel I have been looking for. I also picked up a Sterling with an odd mark, a Wilson I needed, two Louisville Casting Reels, a St. Louis Casting, and five other nice trade reels. So all said a fine show...wish I had more time and money...and got to see Harvey.

Back home again, with the sun rising over the lake out front. I agree with most of the sentiments expressed above. I found little, the crowds were absent, but the displays were very good. I can't wait to be back among crowds of reels...
See you all in NY,
The Cue Ball salesman.
