Will do, Ed. At Logan Airport in Boston waiting for my flight to DC, then a drive to Harpers Ferry. I'll post photos and look for big reels to picture. Maybe even reels as big as your head!

Photos from Wine & Reels Wednesday night
Here's a few random photos from our great gathering for Wine & Reels last night. Some very interesting reels were passed around, including an EVH B Ocean that Tom Harris brought which appears to have been a gift for Thomas Edison on his 74th birthday (it's dated Feb. 11, 1921). Someone did some serious scratching on the engraving, but still a very cool piece of history.
Here's an amazingly rare Oscar Allen 1903 patent reel Scott Edwards picked up recently. Scott has written a fascinating article about Allen and this reel, which will be in the July issue of The Reel News.
And Paul Manuel showed off a really, really old spike reel. This one could well date to the 18th century (or... ?). For those not familiar with these, the spike would go through a hole in the rod handle. Most spike reels have threaded spikes with a wing nut to hold the reel in place. This spike has ribs, but isn't threaded.
Pete Perina brought a sharp Conroys Maker reel to Wine & Reels. This angle shows some of the crowd.
John Elder hauled this custom-made mooching reel for show and tell. This is the reel, which came in a nice wooden case with two extra spools. The reel is engraved "Dr. F.N. Carrier from D.C. Jackling," but John doesn't know who made it.
Oh, and did I mention there are a lot of reels here?
