Snake Assault - Day Two

Post by Reel Geezer »

Day Two - Tuesday.
We were up at 5:30, and headed for the ramp at historic Map Rock along an old Indian trail along the Snake River. We launched into calmer waters than yesterday. A short trip across the river and we were immediately into fish, with some very aggressive smallmouth coming to the boat. After a good warm up, we headed upstream and hit the jackpot. We anchored at the head of a riffle and proceeded to nail a fish or a hard strike on almost every cast. These fish were hitting the fluke or a Z-man Hula Stikz bait. Roger was on fire and we couldn't even stop for muffins with Fudge.

Finally we took a break and drank some coffee and shared our muffins with the loyal dog guide. We ran upstream about a mile to another island riffle where we again anchored and started hauling in the fish. These were not trophy fish but great fighting 12-14" young studs who stripped line from your dragm jumped multiple times, and fought great. When things finally slowed down and we decided to call it a day my counter totaled 110 fish. It was only 12:00 noon, and by the time we got home the pizza and cold beer would taste great.
If we concentrated on the really important things in life there would be a shortage of fishing tackle

Sounds as if there wasn't enough time between catches to take pictures.

Must have smallmouth fix.

It's a LMB, BTW, and in NE many of us Walleye fanatics refer to LBMs as Green Carp. HA! :P
Love those Open Face Spinning Reels! (Especially ABU & ABU/Zebco)
