Info for Shakespeare Match 2020

Post by FSREPAIR »

I recently got a Shakespeare Match 2020 semi-closed faced spin reel. It was made in England. The body is black plastic with a black aluminum front cover. It is a level winding reel with brass gears. It is larger than the Abu 505 but the line spools it came with are quite shallow for light line. It came with 3 colored plastic spools, red, green, & blue. I believe it was made for the UK only, as I have never seen one here in the US. I would like to know which UK manufacturer made it, when it was made, and if anyone has any paper work for it. I believe it could have been made by Norris Shakespeare LTD or by Swift Manufacturer Co of Redditch, England, both of which which were J.W. Young. This would place the date of manufacture somewhere between 1963 to 1984. Maybe Stefan, someone else from the UK, or a J.W. Young specialist knows something about this reel. I sure would appreciate any help. I do have some pics I can email to anyone with info. Thanks for any help! Randy

Young made a match grade Ambidex around 1970. I would think that if Young made your Shakespeare match reel, there would be strong resemblance with the Ambidex frame.
Norris was formed when Shakespeare USA bought Allcocks in 1962, so look to US manufacture or any Shakespeare USA suppliers also as a possibility. I'd love to look at your photos.

hey that's pretty cool. I was trying to type Shakespeare, U.S.A.
